Post-Workout Blueberry Açaí Banana Protein Smoothie

So far in 2016 I have learnt a pretty valuable lesson — working out is not meant for losing weight or obtaining the perfect body, it is meant for so much more.

When this new year started I began to look at my lifestyle and started thinking to myself, how can I be sure that this year I will be my happiest, both mentally and physically? I had already changed the way I eat to a plant-based diet which was very rewarding and I am already seeing the positive side effects from sticking to that way of eating. But there was still something else I felt I wasn’t giving my body and more importantly my mind. And that was exercise.

I started to work out 5-6 days a week for 30 minutes each day and it absolutely feels amazing. It has nothing to do with how I look in the mirror or if I can even see my abs, it is entirely a transformation in my mind. Not only does feeling physically stronger makes you feel amazing but the benefits it has on my mind, wellbeing and general happiness is staggering.

Exercising definitely clears my mind, and because of this I have realized that my objectives and goals have become clearer too. I have become much more efficient in my day to day life now because I don’t feel like my clouded head is bogging me down. Have a strong body is great, but having a stronger mind is beautiful.

And to nourish that strong body and strong mind I knew I needed an awesome superfood protein smoothie! Drinking a smoothie after working out is always one of the best feelings ever. Because you are not really hungry, your body is yearning for lots of nutrients and vitamins and you feel like you can hear you body calling.

In this smoothie I have added protein powder and açaí powder to really make sure I get all the protein and nutrients I need for my muscles and body after a workout. When choosing a protein powder, try to go for a paleo version and one from a reputable source. Mine was suggested by my doctor so if you have any doubts about what protein powder it’s always safe to ask them!

So do you guys workout and why do you workout? I’d love you know what exercising works for you and where you go to work out. Since I can’t find myself spending hundreds of dollars on classes and gym memberships, I use YouTube! Thanks Cassey Ho.

    1. Yes! Exercise should not be about the physical results and when you finally let go of that notion then you realize how rewarding exercise can be for your mind and health! Thanks Ashlyn!

  1. Yes, I TOTALLY agree that working out is about so much more than weight loss. I started working out much more regularly in the last year, and although it doesn’t always bring weightloss, it always makes me feel better. In fact, if I get off track and stop for a few weeks I notice a huge difference in my mood. I love having a smoothie after a workout too, and this one looks perfect! I have never actually tried acai powder, I didn’t even know it existed. I always look for the acai packets at the store and never find them. I will have to see if I can find the powder. Pinning!

    1. Yay! So happy to know another person who enjoys exercise like I do! I have had to take a few days off from exercise because of work and social stuff and I am like so cranky and yes my mood has gone down so much. Yeah I have heard of these acai packets but I really like the powder. You can find it at a whole/health foods store, I have the Navitas Naturals brand!

  2. Giiiirl, I couldn’t agree more! I have been more consistent with my workouts since November, 5-6 days a week at least 30 minutes each, and I haven’t lost a pound. And I don’t even care. It’s not about that for me either. It’s about how it makes me feel, which is amazing. Yay to natural endorphin rush! And double yay for these protein packed smoothies! These are GORGEOUS, girlfriend! Love the blueberry, banana and acai combo! Toe-ts making these after my workout tomorrow! YAY! Pinned! Cheers!

    1. OH wow 5-6 days a week that’s awesome! I also do 5-6 days a week for 30 minutes but this week I wasn’t able to because of work and my stomachache, and I am so upset! It is amazing how much it changes the way I feel and how noticeable my mood is when I am not exercising! I get pretty cranky haha. And my favorite part about working out is drinking this smoothie afterwards! All the proteins and nutrients I put in it makes me feel even better! Would love to see what smoothies you make after your workouts girl!

  3. This recipe looks delicious! May I provide some suggestions? 🙂 I think that your readers would love to know which vanilla protein and acai powders you use. There are so many options out there, and readers trust the bloggers they follow for recommendations!

Lately, the weather has been beautiful, so I’ve been running around my neighborhood a lot. I also bought hand weights, so that I could do some lifting while watching TV. <3

    1. Thanks for the suggestions! I’ll be sure to put that in next time. For the acai powder I buy the Navitas Naturals brand. And with protein powder, everyone is different! I’ll have some suggestions next time. Sometimes I do some lifting while I’m watching TV with my 5-pounders! Feels like I am actually doing something yet still feeling lazy!

    1. Thanks Nicole! Yeah sometimes it can be hard to be consistent. Sometimes I have my bad days where I eat some junk food and then I don’t feel well enough to workout. I need stop doing that but it will take time for me to learn to finally say no to all the bad stuff and keep to my workout regime of 5-6 days a week!

  4. Congrats for starting a new workout routine and sticking to it!! That’s the hardest part. I’ve definitely fallen off the wagon with working out over the past few months, but I did just sign up for a ballet class that starts soon and the weather’s getting warmer so I’m more inclined to go outside and move! Love the colour of this shake, pinning!

    1. Oh yeah that ballet class sounds so interesting! I can’t wait to hear an update on that how that’s going! Yeah the color of this smoothie still gets me every time I make it! Love that deep blue and purple color!
